It isn't about the sleepless nights
Our mothers gave up for us
It isn't about the pain endured
giving life, giving birth and such
It's more about an outstretched hand
When no one seemed to care
The devotion laid in mundane things
Being taught how to wash your hair
The times when comfort made your spirit soar
And laughter made today all right
When homework answers where there for you
To help you through the night
A conversation of mysteries
Of growing and learning of life
A well placed leash on the ego's flight
Preventing some struggle and strife
As time moved on the mothering love
Shined forth through various eyes
The woman in the grocery store
Who helped with your little guys
The one who asks if you're warm enough
The one with the wisdom so wise
The one who hugs with a love so pure
It brings memories of days gone by
Of mother, mom and Grandmom too
The nurturing born from plan
The way to embrace the feminine side
For all of our fellowmen
To gather warmth and love inside
To gently touch a leaf
To understand the heart of all
When crying brings release
When strength no longer comes with fists
But character inside one self
Integrity and God connect
The love our mothers felt
The Grandmom who filled in for some
The woman down the street
The teacher in a first grade class
The ones we've yet to meet
The comfort gained, the solace felt
The warmth of loving arms
The moments lifetimes can n'er erase
Where no one could do us harm
So remember all the female love
And honor the roles they've played
Give thanks to mothers everywhere
An oasis along our way.
